Haryana Accountant General (AG) on Thursday pulled up government departments for not submitting pension and general provident fund (GPF) cases within stipulated time, which lead to inordinate delay in release of social security benefits to retirees.

Majority of government departments are not adhering to the timeline for submission of pension and GPF cases, which cause delay in release of payment to be made to employee who is going to retire, G Balvinder Singh told reporters in Chandigarh.

Except a few including education department, this problem (delay in filling) is universal in all other departments, he noted.

AG (Haryana) maintains 2.52 lakh GPF cases and authorizes pensionary benefits to retired officials of state government departments, ex-members of state legislatures etc.

The callousness of state government departments could be gauged from the fact that AG office received just 17 per cent pension cases during the period January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009 in time, he said. Notably, 1000 employees in Haryana retire every month.
