Things appear to be perking up on the 5G horizon in India. Stanford University tech hotshot professor emeritus AJ Paulraj is likely to call on telecom minister Manoj Sinha and telecom secretary Aruna Sundarajan this week to review progress on deployment of this ultra-fast wireless technology in India. Paulraj, who’s mentoring the Indian government as head of the high-level 5G forum, is likely to discuss deployment timelines, take stock of spectrum availability, zero in on near-term 5G use cases that could work in the country and identify potential challenges. The government wants to allocate 5G spectrum in the second half of 2019. Paulraj & Co are likely to run a reality check on that score.
