Kashmir falls in the cold, Leh records at least 8.7 degrees Celsius

On Thursday morning, the situation of cold wave in Kashmir was relieved as all the weather stations in the valley recorded zero-temperature temperature last night. An official of the MIT department said that mercury in Srinagar was registered at minus 2.6 degree Celsius on Wednesday. In this season, the lowest temperature was recorded two nights ago, as the temperature fell below minus 3.2 degrees Celsius. The official said that in the valley and other places of the Ladakh region, even the sub-zero temperature experienced last night. He said that Pahalgam, which acts as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.0 degrees Celsius, which was below minus 5.1 degree Celsius last night. A health resort in south Kashmir was the coldest place in Pahalgam Valley.

He said that the famous ski resort of Gulmarg in northern Kashmir was recorded at 4.6 degree Celsius, which was 0.6 degree below last night. The official said that in Kokernag in south Kashmir, the minimum temperature was recorded at 2.2 degree Celsius while the nearby Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.0 degrees Celsius. He said that Kupwara in north Kashmir was under minus 1.7 degrees Celsius, which was below zero to 3.0 degrees Celsius last night. The official said that the minimum temperature in Leh was recorded at zero to 8.7 degrees Celsius in Leh, which was less than 11.4 degrees Celsius last night. He said that Leh was the coldest recorded city in the entire state.
