Aiming for a lesser time consuming ticket printing process, the Indian Railways has decided to introduce Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Kiosk Machines that will read the booking SMS and print the required tickets in a jiffy. These machines will ease the load on the booking counters/ATVM machines thereby promoting transactions through the UTS mobile app.

The OCR Kiosk machines have first been introduced in the Western Railway zone. All in all 25 OCR Kiosk machines have been planned for installation in the Western Railway zone, out of which 20 became functional yesterday in five stations in Mumbai, namely, Churchgate, Dadar, Bandra, Andheri and Borivali. The remaining 5 machines are under process and will be installed shortly at Churchgate. In order to use this facility, one has to simply place one’s mobile phone screen in the designated slot provided in the OCR Kiosk machine and the machine will print the ticket immediately.
