A local Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA Banoth Shankar Naik was arrested and later released on bail for allegedly misbehaving with IAS officer Preeti Meena, currently posted as Mahbubabad District Collector, during an official programme.
Naik was arrested on Thursday following a complaint by the bureaucrat.
Meena alleged that Naik had held her arm during a tree plantation programme held in Mahbubabad on Wednesday and asking her to move forward. In fact footage of Television channels also showed the MLA touching her arm while hurrying other officials and TRS workers.
Niak was arrested under Section 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his or her duty) and Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has asked the TRS MLA tender an unconditional apology to Meena. He also threatened to suspend him from the party, if he did not change his behaviour.
