Four senior IPS officers — Shivanand Jha, Tirth Raj, AK Singh and Ashish Bhatia — have been promoted to the rank of DGP in Gujarat.
The promotions were awaited for a long time, Bureaucracy Today has learnt.
Gujarat used to have five posts of DGP. However, in February 2017, the Department of Personnel and Training sanctioned 13 cadre posts for the state, including two of DGP rank. The change in the rules allowed the Gujarat Government to create two more ex-cadre posts of the same rank.
In a related development, IPS officers Shamshersinh and Manoj Agarwal were promoted as Additional DGP.
