IAS vacancies at alarming level

The vacancy of IAS officers has reached an "alarming level" with the shortfall touching at 1,470, a parliamentary panel has said.

A report presented by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice in Parliament on Wednesday, stated that the shortage of IAS officers has increased to an “alarming level" with only 4,926 incumbent officers against a sanctioned strength of 6,396 as per the civil list dated January 1, 2016.

The report further stated that such shortage of officers is affecting governance in both the Centre and the States, Bureaucracy Today has learnt.
