Recognising the importance of data protection and keeping personal data of citizens secure and protected, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on July 31 has constituted a Committee of Experts under the Chairmanship of Justice B N Srikrishna, former Judge of Supreme Court of India.
Besides Srikrishna, the Committee comprise of eight Members -- Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Department of Telecom, Ajay Bhushan Pandey, CEO,UIDAI, Ajay Kumar, Addl Secretary, MeitY, Prof Rajat Moona, Director, lIT, Raipur, Dr Gulshan Rai, National Cyber Security Coordinator, Prof Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director, IIM, Indore, Dr Arghya Sengupta, Research Director, Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, Rama Vedashree, CEO, DSCI.
The Committee will study and identify key data protection issues and recommend methods for addressing them. The committee will also suggest a draft Data Protection Bill. Protection of Data is expected to provide big boost to Digital economy of the country.
