The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Colonel of Planning & Engineering Branch of Indian Army, Eastern Command, Kolkata and three others those including Managing Director, Director & a representative of Private Company based at Pune in an alleged bribery of Rs 50,000.
CBI had registered a case on June 17, 2017 against Colonel and three others including Managing Director, Director and a Kolkata representative of Pune based private company.
They were arrested under Section 120 B of Indian Penal Code and section 7, 12 & 13(2) r/w 13(1) (d) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
It was alleged that the Colonel had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.80 lakh from Managing Director of the aforesaid company in connection with the supply of Power Pack Rock Splitters, which are used by various field formations of the Army.
The Colonel was alleged to have already demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 50,000 during February 2017 and as part of the second installment of the bribe, the Colonel has now accepted Rs 50,000 from the accused company.
CBI had tracked the Director of the private company who came from Pune to deliver the bribe to Colonel and nabbed him after the payment of bribe to the Colonel. CBI caught the Colonel and recovered the bribe from his residence.
It is to be said that searches have been conducted in four premises at Pune and two premises at Kolkata.
The arrested accused persons were produced before the Competent Court on Sunday.
