The Special Judge CBI Cases has sentenced K.S. Chandrasekhar former Deputy Commissioner of Customs, to undergo one year Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 60 lakh in a case of criminal conspiracy and abuse of official position, Bureaucracy Today has learnt.
The Judge also sentenced two other persons Raju Mathew and George Bastin, Partners of M/s Mars Cargo Agencies, Cochin to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 30 lakh each in the case.
The investigation revealed that Chandrasekhar while working as Deputy Commissioner of Customs, Air Cargo Complex, Nedumbassery Airport, Ernakulam entered into a criminal conspiracy with Raju Mathew and George Bastin, and favoured M/s Mars Cargo Agencies without any public interest, in the matter of clearing of goods without imposing applicable Customs Duty.
In lieu of this favour, the Deputy Commissioner obtained illegal gratification on eight occasions for a total amount of Rs. 3,79,350/- from the representatives of M/s Mars Cargo Agencies.
The Trial Court found the accused persons guilty and convicted them.
