JUDICIARY WATCH

Allahabad HC fines Rs. 5000 to PMO and UL Ministry

A bench of Justices Sudhir Agrawal and Abdul Moin has passed the order on a PIL moved by a petitioner who stated that the Centre, on an average, takes cognizance of only 10 reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) whereas about 5,000 CAG reports are submitted to it every year. Apart from seeking reform in the CAG, the PIL questioned the functioning of the Centre in talking any action on audit objections raised by auditor general in the past ten years. In response to the delay, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has imposed penalty of Rs. 5,000 on the Prime Minister’s Office and the Union Law Ministry.
