Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Civil Aviation, recently visited Johannesburg in South Africa to attend the India South Africa Business Summit on April 29-30, 2018 where he held a series of bilateral meetings which included his meetings with Dr. Rob Davies, Minister of Trade and Industry, South Africa, various other Ministers from Swaziland, Botswana and Lesotho, members of the India-South Africa CEOs Forum who expressed confidence in the Indian Government’s efforts to strengthen the Indo-African relations and pledged their support regarding the same.
During his visit to Johannesburg, Prabhu also met ministers from the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and participated in the India-SADC Dialogue where he addressed the plenary session of the Summit and talked about building synergies between India and South Africa. According to him, the summit was a harbinger of good things to come and that South Africa and India were poised to take off in the next few years on a higher growth trajectory. Later, the Minister along with Dr. Davies, inaugurated a multi-sectoral exhibition at Johannesburg.
During his stay, the Minister also visited the Tata Motors' South Africa assembly plant at Rosslyn near Pretoria. He appreciated the work being carried out by Tata Motors in providing employment to the locals. At the end of the tour the Minister met the Indian diaspora and said that they were a bridge between the two countries for more than 150 years now and that the diaspora was a great hope for the future of both economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries.
