An Indo-Nepal Inter Government Committee led by the commerce Secretaries of the respective countries met in Kathmandu, Nepal on April 26-27, 2018 to discuss bilateral trade, transit and economic relations.
During the meeting, both delegations agreed to initiate a comprehensive review of the bilateral Treaty of Trade governing bilateral trade which was last revised in 2009. They discussed amendments to the bilateral Treaty of Transit which was signed in 1999 to facilitate Nepal's transit movement regarding trade with third countries. The amendments include expansion of transit points, simplification of procedures, electronic cargo tracking and enabling movement of Indian cargo through Nepal's territory. Apart from these, the countries agreed on synchronised border trade infrastructure development to timely utilize the investment in border infrastructure.
