It was not just in India that January 26, 2018 was celebrated as the69th Indian Republic day. The celebrations were carried out globally in the High Commission of India in Brunei Darussalam, Embassy of India, Kyiv and Nairobi.
In Brunei Darussalam, Ravi Chander, Charge d’Affaires, unfurled the National Tricolour and read the President’s Address to the nation on the eve of Republic Day in the presence of members of the Indian community in Brunei. In the Embassy of India, Kyiv, the Indian flag was hoisted and H E Manoj K Bharti, ambassador of India to Ukraine read out the Indian President’s speech on the said occasion. Two Indian students of Kyiv Medical University of UAFM presented a patriotic song. The students of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University and Kyiv National Linguistic University performed a play in Hindi based on the Ramayana. In Nairobi, Suchitra Duari, High Commissioner, unfurled the tricolour at the India House. The High Commissioner addressed the guests and read out the President's address to the Nation on the eve of Republic Day. A brief cultural programme consisting of patriotic songs by Upkar Singh and Kirit Patni as well as by the members of Tamil Cultural Association and a skit by the Hindi Samiti of East Africa was organised to mark the occasion.
