Building bridges of amity

“Mazhab nahin sikhata apas mein bair rakhna, Hindi hain ham watan hai Hindustan hamara…” Mohammad Iqbal At a time when pseudo-secularists are creating a disillusion among common people by crying themselves hoarse that the “RSS-backed” BJP-led NDA Government is propagating “Hindutva” politics, a silent revolution of communal harmony is taking place at the grassroots level in India. Since ages, religion in India has always played an important role in uniting the people and the nation. With the British rule came their “divide and rule” policy. They created differences between Hindus and Muslims on the basis of religion and that was the greatest setback to India’s national integration. Post-Independence, politicians played with the religious sentiments of the people for vote-banks.  However, things are changing now. Our Cover Story busts the claim of pseudo-secularists who are posing a threat to the secular fabric of India. Bureaucracy Today brings to its readers the heartwarming story of a social renaissance, initiated by the much-criticised saffron outfit, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which heralds a new dawn of Hindu-Muslim unity in India. In this issue, we also have an interview of former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh whose tell-all autobiography, “One Life is Not Enough”, has stirred a hornet’s nest in political circles. The former Gandhi family loyalist, whose memoirs are sharply critical of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, rues that the media has made his book look like “Sonia-centric” which is “unfair”. In a tete-e-tete with Bureaucracy Today, the veteran politician talks about various issues beyond Sonia – the “presence” of CIA agents in India, his assessment of the Narendra Modi Government, Indo-Pak ties and also about his love life. Of course, he could not resist talking about the four-decade friendship with the Gandhi family which has gone sour!
